Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

The Nigerian government has expressed its willingness to partner with the British Government in tackling unemployment and creating job opportunities for young persons in the country. PHOTO: NAN The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Dr Festus Keyamo, stated this when the Political Counsellor, British High Commission, Mr Dominic Williams, paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. “We are ready to collaborate with our partners all over the world to open up avenues for job creation. We are open to all kinds of suggestions and levels of co-operation,” he said. He disclosed that the Government has opened up other sectors as part of efforts to diversify the economy from oil, which would, in turn, create room for employment. Arsenal and Nigeria soccer legend, Kanu Nwankwo, has just been appointed by the Confederation of African Football(CAF) to be part of a special envoy for the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON that commences in Egypt on Friday.
Kanu Nwanko AKA ''papillo'' was shortlisted along with six other African legends for the special roles, according to Sporting Life.
The other six African Soccer legends that made the list are : Mahmoud El Khateeb (Egypt), Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon), Yaya Toure, Didier Drogba (Both Cote d’Ivoire), Rabeh Madjer (Algeria), and El Hadji Diouf (Senegal).
Kanu won the CAF African Footballer of the Year in 1996 and 1999 respectively.
The former Super Eagles Star man also featured in six AFCON editions for Nigeria from 2000 to 2010.
AFCON will commence on 21 June with the final scheduled for 19 July.
