Job: Nigeria, Britain partner to combat unemployment

Edo govt shuts down burrow pits with immediate effect, plans recertification exercise

Citing threat to the integrity of the environment, danger of flash floods and the need to avoid health hazards, the Edo State Government has shut down with immediate effect burrow pits in the state.

Governor Obaseki In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Dame Omoua Alonge Oni-Okpaku Esq., the state government said that all burrow pits in the state are shut with effect from August 2, noting that the move is necessary not to predispose the state to environmental hazards.
According to the statement, “The Ministry of Environment and Sustainability wishes to announce, for the information of the general public and in particular, the owners and operators of burrow pits, haulage operators, tipper drivers and other stakeholders, that all operations of burrow pits are shut down with effect from Thursday 2nd August, 2018.”

The senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has called on the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki to resonate the Senate.
Ndume, while fielding questions from Channels Television on Thursday, accused the Senate President of shutting down the National Assembly over personal issues.
The Borno-born lawmaker said he was shocked at the manner in which he (Saraki) acted and therefore, wants the Senate to reconvene in order for it to resolve some critical national matters.
The politician said this on Wednesday in reaction to Senator Saraki’s defection.

INEC Boss Asks Appeal Court To Quash Arrest Order Against Him

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu (file) The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud Yakubu, has asked the Court of Appeal to quash the arrest order issued against him.
He made the request in an appeal filed on Thursday in Abuja, through his lead counsel and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Adegboyega Awomolo.

Justice Stephen Pam of the Federal High Court in the nation’s capital had issued the warrant of arrest against Professor Yakubu on Wednesday for allegedly disobeying court orders.
In the notice of appeal, the INEC Chairman, however, claimed that Justice Pam acted in bad faith in the issuance of the arrest order.
He explained that he had already filed a pending appeal against the order while the attention of the judge was drawn to the appeal.

He broke a loud silence today by revealing how hard life has been for him but maintains he is getting stronger due to the love and support from his team.

Ukpabi Kenneth, a 22 two-year-old man, is currently in the custody of the Abia State Police Command for claiming to be a colonel in the Nigerian Army.
According to Punch Metro, a Police source said Kenneth was arrested by the men of the Nigerian Army at the Isi-Court axis of Umuahia, the State Capital in an attempt to rob an unidentified man of his motorcycle.
It was gathered that the suspect had presented a fake identity card of an Army colonel which he had been using to intimidate unsuspecting members of the Public.
The source added that seven passport photographs of the suspect on a military camouflage, one Access bank ATM card belonging to one Eno Nto and one fake military identity card was found on the suspect at the point of arrest.
